Project Hope: Community Rallies to Build Net Zero Ready Home in Just Three Days
From June 9 to 11, 2017, CHBA Member Doug Tarry Homes gathered more than 600 volunteers in St. Thomas, Ontario to build Project Hope – a Net Zero Ready Home – in just three days. Proceeds of the sale of this new home will help support the family of a local man, Johnny Nooren, who died of cancer last summer, leaving behind his wife Angela and their two young children, Luke and Aleida.
Doug Tarry wanted to help the family, and decided to do it the best way he knew how. “We’re home builders. We take care of this sort of thing,” Doug explains. What followed was a community coming together to help one of their own.
Sonja Winkelmann, CHBA Director of Net Zero Energy Housing, visited the site on day two to talk with Doug Tarry Homes, winner of CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence’s inaugural Net Zero Home Award.
