Our Awards Platform is designed for you to create an account and jump right in. Within the platform, you'll find all of the information you need.

The use of the Word Entry Form documents below is optional. They have been provided to make preparing your entry as easy as possible, and for some entrants it might be easier to collaborate with other people or to work offline. Preparing your entries using these optional forms also ensures you have a file backup of your work. You can use these forms as a resource, but all entries must be completed on our online platform and submitted electronically. In the case of a discrepancy between these documents and our online platform, the online platform will take precedence.

2020 Categories

New Home Awards

These awards recognize the excellent architectural qualities of a new home including overall exterior and interior design, use of building forms and materials, creative use of space, functionality of floor plan and overall appeal to a target market.

New! Entry-Level Home Affordability Award (Attached or Detached Home)

Home Renovation Awards

Projects in the Kitchen and Bathroom categories showcase a single room and may entail the reconfiguration of existing spaces and/or addition of new space.

Projects in the Any Space category is meant to be a catch-all category that is not covered by another category, and may entail the reconfiguration of existing spaces and/or addition of new space. Example projects may include: a basement, a front foyer, a home library, home gym, etc.

Projects in the Exterior category must involved a renovation of the exterior of the home, though landscaping that is connected to the project may also be showcased. Example projects may include: a major upgrade to the front of the home, an outdoor kitchen or living space added into the backyard, etc.

Projects entered into Whole Home categories must involve more than one room and may entail interior and exterior work, including the reconfiguration of existing spaces and/or addition of new space. Kitchens, Bathrooms, Any Space, and Exteriors projects that are entered as part of a Whole Home category can also be entered separately into the Kitchen, Bathroom, Any Space, and Exteriors categories.

Marketing Awards

These awards honour the best in marketing—attracting customer attention, generating traffic, and creating the confidence and environment favourable to home buying and/or renovating. Marketing Awards are offered in ten (10) categories:

Modular Innovation Award

This award recognizes excellence and innovation in factory-built homes that demonstrate outstanding exterior and interior design, as well as environmental and operational efficiency in both the construction process and the finished home. Eligible factories must be members of the CHBA Modular Construction Council and certified in accordance with CSA A277. In addition to being entered into the Modular Innovation Award category, factory built homes can also be entered into the corresponding New Home Award category or the Net Zero Home Award.

Net Zero Home Award

These homes are Qualified under the CHBA Net Zero Labelling Program (either Net Zero Ready or Net Zero). The award recognizes excellence in high performance homes that have an appealing aesthetic, including overall exterior and interior design, use of building forms and materials, creative use of space, and functionality of floor plan. In addition to being entered as a Net Zero Home Award, Net Zero homes can also be entered into the corresponding New Home Award category or the Modular Innovation Award.

Community Development Award

This award recognizes excellence in performance by developer and home builder members who create attractive, exciting, innovative and environmentally responsible communities.

Marketing Excellence Award

The Marketing Excellence Award recognizes a single home builder or developer member for their overall excellence in marketing, based on the highest total score for those companies that have entered a minimum of four (4) marketing categories and have won in at least one (1) of those categories. Your prospects of winning increase by making up to 3 entries in multiple marketing categories.

New! Renovation Excellence Award

New in 2020, the Renovation Excellence Award is the top award in Canada's residential renovation industry. The award recognizes outstanding performance by a single renovator member in the renovation of homes, based on the highest total score of those companies that have won at least one (1) Renovation Award and have entered a minimum of three (3) Renovation Award categories. Your prospects of winning increase by making up to 3 entries in multiple renovation categories.

Design Excellence Award

The Design Excellence Award is the pinnacle of achievement in the residential new home construction industry. The award recognizes outstanding performance by a single home builder or developer member in the design of new homes, based on the highest total score of those companies that have won at least one (1) New Home Award and have entered a minimum of three (3) New Home Award categories. Your prospects of winning increase by making up to 3 entries in multiple new home categories. Please note that Mid- to High-Rise Condominium or Apartment Project (Planned) does not count towards the Design Excellence Award as project entered into that category are not yet completed.
