CHBA Launches Renovation Month Campaign

OTTAWA – October 1, 2025 This October, CHBA launches Renovation Month, a campaign urging homeowners to renovate with confidence by choosing RenoMark-verified contractors.

With the theme “Renovate Right. Renovate Now. RenoMark.”, the campaign emphasizes the importance of hiring professional, insured, and verified renovators who follow a strict Code of Conduct. RenoMark contractors provide contracts, warranties, and peace of mind—ensuring no shortcuts and no surprises.

“This Renovation Month, don’t just start your project—start it right,” said Sarah Caron, Director, Renovation Services, CHBA. “RenoMark contractors are committed to quality, transparency, and putting homeowners first.”

The Hidden Risks of Paying Cash for Renovations

When evaluating contractors, price should never be the only factor, especially if it means turning to unregulated, cash-based operators in search of cheaper alternatives. While cash deals may seem appealing due to lower upfront costs, they come with serious risks that can cost homeowners more in the long run:

  • No Warranty or Legal Protection: Without a formal contract, homeowners have no recourse if something goes wrong.
  • Safety Hazards: Unpermitted work may not meet building codes, putting families at risk and potentially affecting insurance coverage.
  • Poor Workmanship: Underground operators often cut corners, leading to costly repairs and maintenance.
  • No Tax Incentives: Homeowners who pay cash miss out on potential rebates and tax credits which require receipts.
  • Market Distortion: Cash-based renovations undermine legitimate businesses that follow regulations, pay taxes, and maintain quality standards.

“For most people, their home is their biggest asset, making risky renovation choices a serious gamble.” said Sarah. “RenoMark offers a trusted, professional alternative that protects both the homeowner and the industry.”
