About the Home Modification Council

CHBA’s Home Modification Council (HMC) supports many aspects of aging in place for Canada’s seniors and for persons with disabilities and their caregivers, including: appropriate home modifications; appropriate training for renovators; access to occupational therapists, trained architects/designers, and community care professionals; information about disability funding organizations, government loans, grants & tax credits, and assistive device and industry representatives.

The goal of the HMC is to provide a much needed coordination point of expertise, resources and services for those who wish to age in place, as well as their caregivers. This is to be done by clearly identifying the needs of consumers and the needs of those working in this sector striving to meet these needs.

Home Modifications

Canada’s population is aging at a faster rate than ever before. Seniors are the fastest-growing age group in the country. Ninety percent of Canadians want to live in the same home or community safely and independently as they age.

Whether you’re building a new house or renovating an existing home, working with seniors can pose some unique challenges.
