R-2000 Builder Training
R-2000 builders are leaders in the industry. They are professionals who are committed to the “art of home building” — companies with a strong focus on high quality design and construction. Builders choose to be part of the R-2000 Program because they want access to the best home building technology available so they can offer their customers a better home.
All types of home builders can become R-2000 builders:
- Custom, or semi-custom builders. Many R-2000 builders are smaller companies; many build R-2000 exclusively. Typically, they will work either from existing plans or they will design your home with you from scratch. In either case, you will have a high degree of input into all aspects of your home.
- Tract, or production, builders. Many of Canada’s large builders are licensed R-2000 builders. R-2000 is offered as an option with the company’s model plans. Ask the builder’s salesperson for details.
- Manufactured housing builders. Some modular home manufacturers are licensed to build R-2000 homes. The R-2000 quality assurance process begins in the factory and is completed once the homes are moved onsite.
R-2000 builders are highly skilled professionals who are specially trained and licensed under the R-2000 Program.
- As the first step in the licensing process, builders must complete a special R-2000 training course.
- After passing the course, the builder must construct an R-2000 home. Only when this home has passed all the tests required for R-2000 Certification, will the builder receive the license.
- Once licensed, builders must attend periodic seminars to stay informed of new technical developments. All licensed R-2000 builders must be members of a New Home Warranty program or its equivalent in their province.
- The technicians who install ventilation systems in R-2000 homes must also be specially trained and licensed.
- Likewise, R-2000 plans evaluators, on-site inspectors and airtightness testers must take special training and be licensed.
Only licensed builders have access to the R-2000 quality assurance process, and you will only get an R-2000 Certificate for your home, if you buy from a licensed builder.
