National Education and Training Advisory Committee
It is the role of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, through the National Education and Training Advisory Committee (NETAC), to achieve an understanding of education and training issues and opportunities, and to forge new and stronger partnerships in Canada’s residential construction sector in this regard.
NETAC has four separate and inter-related elements to its mandate:
- Identify actions to address skilled labour force development challenges and opportunities in the residential construction industry,
- Pursue professionalization of the residential construction industry, e.g., new home builder and renovator designation programs,
- Share information about course development initiatives and delivery issues for trades, first-level supervisors and new home builders and renovators; and
- Identify actions to address the workplace health and safety needs of the residential construction industry.
NETAC’s role at the national level includes providing a forum for exchanging views and information among provincial Home Builders’ Associations. This involves the monitoring of federal and provincial developments, influencing the development and implementation of provincial initiatives and helping to facilitate collaborative approaches to training and other supportive activities among provincial Home Builders’ Associations.
Membership in the National Education and Training Advisory Committee includes representatives of Provincial Associations, national associations and government departments which have a vested interest in developing a skilled workforce and supporting professionalization of the residential construction industry in Canada. A number of Associate Participants are also invited to attend the meetings, including academic institutions and other locally and provincially based organizations.
