Home Builders honour leadership, accomplishment

Victoria, B.C., March 7, 2010 -- The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) today honoured leadership and accomplishment among its membership with the presentation of awards at the 67th CHBA National Conference.

The Beaver Award, presented to the outstanding builder member of the year, went to Don Doolan of the CHBA-Calgary Region.

Peter Rebello of the CHBA Manufacturers’ Council won the Maple Leaf Award as the outstanding non-builder member for 2009.

John Hrynkow of the CHBA-Edmonton Region won the prestigious Gordon S. Shipp Award in recognition of leadership, dedication, and continuous lengthy service to the CHBA at the national level.

The Colonel Boss Award, presented to the Home Builders’ Association making the greatest progress and achievement compared to the previous year, went to the CHBA-Saskatchewan.

The William M. McCance Award for outstanding contribution to the home building industry in the technical area went to Derek Thorsteinson of the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association.

The Community Service Award for the betterment of the way of life of people in its community went to the CHBA-Calgary Region.

Matthew Sachs of the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association won the R-2000 Award for his outstanding contribution to energy-efficient housing through the R-2000 program.

The Harry J. Long Memorial Trophy for the highest increase in membership was awarded to  the CHBA-Central Vancouver Island.

The Dave Bell Memorial Award for the promotion of education and training programs for members and consumers went to the CHBA-BC.

The Canadian Renovators’ Council Award for a significant contribution to the renovation industry and leadership within the Association went to Mike Martin of the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association.
 
The Riley Brethour Award, recognizing contributions at the national level in marketing and sales was presented to Heather McGinnis of the Regina & Region Home Builders’ Association.

Rooftopper of the Year Award (association over one hundred members) – Pal Shergill of the CHBA-Calgary Region.

Executive Officers’ Council Awards

The Dave Stupart Award of Honour for the Executive Officer of the Year (full-time)
went to Claudia Simmonds of the CHBA-New Brunswick. The award (part-time) went to
 Bronwen Thorburn of CHBA-Sea to Sky.

The Ken McKinlay Award for excellence in communication went to Peter Simpson of the
Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association.

The Susan Chambers Award of Recognition for the initiation and development of non-dues sources of revenue was presented to Paul Pettipas of the CHBA-Central Nova.

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) is the national voice of the residential construction industry, representing more than 8,000 member firms across the country. Membership comprises new home builders, renovators, developers, trade contractors, building material manufacturers and suppliers, lenders and other professionals in the housing sector.
